Mosasaur tooth

A Mosasaur tooth resting on a chunk of matrix from Khouribga, Morocco. Mosasaurs were a group of large, predatory marine reptiles that lived during the Late Cretaceous period and they were apex predators in the oceans. This is a nice large crown with good enamel and no repairs. The surrounding matrix contains lots of fish vertebrae and a coprolite.

The region around Khouribga, Morocco where this tooth was found, is renowned for its rich fossil deposits. The phosphate mines here expose marine sediments that preserve a diverse vertebrate fauna, including mosasaurs, plesiosaurs, and various sharks, rays, and fish like Enchodus.
