Theropod Tooth (Afrovanator abakensis?) (Niger) #11

Description

A rare Jurassic theropod tooth from the Tiouraren Formation (Niger).  This tooth features some nice portions of enamel and serrations.

It's very difficult to ID teeth from the Jurassic of Niger as there's only a small amount of published material to compare against, however due to the size, shape and serration counts we would tentatively assign this one to a megalosaurid, possibly Afrovanator abakensis. Comes labelled and stored in an acrylic case with padding. 

Tooth measurements are as follows:

Crown Base Ratio: 0.55

Crown Height Ratio: 1.73

Mesial Serration Count (per 5mm): 9 (approx., very worn)

Distal Serration Count (per 5mm): 10

The tooth is incomplete, so it's hard to judge how far the mesial carina extends.

Condition: Fair/Good

Size: 0.75 inch

Age: 167 Million Years
