SARCOSUCHUS

"Flesh Crocodile"

Sarcosuchus, often nicknamed "SuperCroc," was a massive prehistoric crocodile that roamed the Earth during the Cretaceous period, approximately 133 to 112 million years ago. With an estimated length of up to 9.5 meters and a weight of over 4 tons, it was one of the largest crocodilians to ever exist. Its elongated snout, studded with conical teeth, was perfectly adapted for hunting large prey, including dinosaurs.

Fossil evidence suggests that Sarcosuchus inhabited freshwater environments in what is now Africa and South America. Its powerful jaws and strong bite force allowed it to subdue and consume a variety of animals, making it a formidable predator in its ecosystem. While Sarcosuchus was undoubtedly a top predator, it likely faced competition from other large predators, such as large theropod dinosaurs.

Did you know?

Sarcosuchus had a bony expansion at the end of its snout, similar to that of modern gharials. It's purpose is not known, but this  may have played a role in attracting mates.
