Neolithic Bifacial Hand-Axe (Taillebourg, France)

A genuine neolithic hand-axe. Found in Taillebourg, this region is famous for Middle Neolithic settlements, specifically the Peu-Richardien culture (c. 3700–4700 BC), which is known for its fortified enclosures and stone tool production. This axe was produced by the early farming communities that inhabited the limestone plateaus of the Charente-Maritime over 6,000 years ago.

The hand axe features some original ink and a small label (which we have left in place) from when it was found several decades ago. Comes with an acrylic display stand and label, as pictured.
