Suchomimus Tooth

A Suchomimus tooth from the Elrhaz Formation of Niger. Suchomimus had conical, slightly curved teeth, perfect for catching fish which made up the majority of its diet.

The geological group where this tooth was found, The Elrhaz Formation, located in the Ténéré Desert of Niger, is an Early Cretaceous (112 million years ago) sedimentary unit renowned for its exceptional vertebrate fossil record. Composed of fluvial sandstones, mudstones, and conglomerates, it represents a lush, river-dominated floodplain environment with seasonal lakes and abundant vegetation. This formation is famous for yielding Suchomimus tenerensis, a piscivorous spinosaurid, alongside the sauropod Nigersaurus taqueti, crocodyliforms like Sarcosuchus imperator, and diverse fish and pterosaurs.
