Struthiomimus Toe Bone

A Struthiomimus toe bone from the Hell Creek Formation in Carter County, Montana. A Late Cretaceous ornithomimid dinosaur, Struthiomimus inhabited North America around 75 to 65.5 million years ago. Its name, meaning "ostrich mimic," reflects its striking resemblance to modern ostriches. Built for speed, Struthiomimus had long, slender hind limbs, likely reaching speeds of 50 km/h to escape predators like Tyrannosaurus rex.

The formation where this bone was found, the Hell Creek Formation, was laid down by ancient floodplains in the Late Cretaceous and preserves fossils of Triceratops and Tyrannosaurus, as well as many other well known dinosaurs. Its top, the K-Pg boundary, marks the asteroid impact that ended the dinosaurs.

This bone was found in two parts which have been reattached. There are some sections of the bone missing, however it's a nice solid piece offering some nice internal and external bone detail. It comes with an acrylic display stand and a small label featuring the specimen name, region it was found and age.
