Kryptops Tooth

A Kryptops tooth from the Elrhaz Formation of Niger. Kryptops was an abelisaurid, a family of dinosaurs which includes the likes of Carnotaurus, and lived alongside other theropods such as Eocarcharia and Suchomimus. This is a large, high quality tooth with good enamel and one repair (no restoration).

The geological formation where this tooth was found, the Elrhaz Formation, located in the Ténéré Desert of Niger, is an Early Cretaceous (112 million years ago) sedimentary unit renowned for its exceptional vertebrate fossil record. Composed of fluvial sandstones, mudstones, and conglomerates, it represents a lush, river-dominated floodplain environment with seasonal lakes and abundant vegetation. This formation is famous for yielding Suchomimus tenerensis, a piscivorous spinosaurid, alongside the sauropod Nigersaurus taqueti, crocodyliforms like Sarcosuchus imperator, and diverse fish and pterosaurs.

The tooth comes stored in a display box featuring the specimen name, region it was found, age and a QR code linking to some information about Kryptops (fossil can be removed from the box).
