Eocarcharia Theropod Foot Claw

A theropod foot claw from the Elrhaz Formation of Niger. It's morphology suggests it comes from a Carcharodontosaurid, with Eocarcharia being the only Carcharodonosaurid described from this formation.

The geological group where this claw was found, The Elrhaz Formation, located in the Ténéré Desert of Niger, is an Early Cretaceous (112 million years ago) sedimentary unit renowned for its exceptional vertebrate fossil record. Composed of fluvial sandstones, mudstones, and conglomerates, it represents a lush, river-dominated floodplain environment with seasonal lakes and abundant vegetation. This formation is famous for yielding Suchomimus tenerensis, a piscivorous spinosaurid, alongside the sauropod Nigersaurus taqueti, crocodyliforms like Sarcosuchus imperator, and diverse fish and pterosaurs.

This is a nice large claw, broad and robust with a clear blood groove on one side and the attachment surface still intact. It does have some wear/damage to one side but features no repairs or restoration.

The claw comes stored in a display box featuring the specimen name, region it was found, age and a QR code linking to some information about Eocarcharia (fossil can be removed from the box).
