In the Roman era, Rheinzabern, Germany, leveraged its plentiful natural resources (clay and wood) and strategic position along the Rhine and Roman road network to become a key hub for producing Samian ware. This premium tableware, widely used across the western Roman Empire from around 50 BC to the early 3rd century AD, is easily identifiable by its glossy red finish and decorative (or simple) patterns.

The piece comes stored in a display box, as pictured, with some information on the reverse of the box lid (the pottery can be removed from the box).
