Mesolithic Flint Scraper (Dorset, England)

A Mesolithic flint scraper from North Dorset in the UK. 

The Mesolithic period, spanning from the end of the last ice age 12,000 years ago to the start of settled farming around 5,500 years ago, followed the melting of ice that carved deep river valleys into the chalk Dorset Downs. Hunting groups from the continent tracked game herds to England, discovering flint nodules scattered across the North and South Downs by glacial meltwaters. These flints were crafted into hunting weapons and tools like scrapers and knives for processing animal skins into clothing, tents, and other essentials. This is one of those scrapers.

The scraper comes stored in a display box, as pictured, with further information about its origins on the reverse of the box lid (the scraper can be removed from the box).
