Iguanodontid Foot Cast (Isle of Wight)

An Iguanodontid dinosaur foot cast from the Wessex Formation of the Isle of Wight. A footcast, or natural cast, is a three-dimensional fossil formed when sediment fills a dinosaur footprint, hardens, and preserves the shape of the track. This foot cast was made by a juvenile Iguanodontid stepping into soft, muddy sediment on a Cretaceous floodplain.

The geological formation where this tooth was found, the Wessex Formation, is an Early Cretaceous geological unit of mudstones, sandstones, and plant debris beds, formed in a subtropical floodplain with rivers and lagoons. It yields diverse fossils, including iguanodontids like Iguanodon and Mantellisaurus, theropods like Neovenator, and sauropods like Ornithopsis, plus crocodiles, fish, and pollen. Its significance lies in its rich dinosaur record, offering a snapshot of a vibrant, herbivore-dominated ecosystem in prehistoric Europe.    

The foot cast comes with a display stand as pictured and a small card featuring the specimen name, region it was found and age.
