Ankylosaur Foot Cast with Skin Impressions (England)

An Ankylosaurid foot cast from the Ashdown Formation. A footcast, or natural cast, is a three-dimensional fossil formed when sediment fills a dinosaur footprint, hardens, and preserves the shape of the track. This foot cast offers exceptional detail, most noteably a skin impression on one of the toes!

The geological formation where this footcast was found, the Ashdown Formation, is part of the Wealden Group in southeast England and is Early Cretaceous in age. Exposed in East Sussex and Kent, it preserves fossils of dinosaurs like Barilium (an iguanodontid), Hypselospinus, and early theropods, alongside fish, crocodiles, and plants. Its significance lies in providing insights into Early Cretaceous ecosystems of the Weald Basin, with fossil-rich beds like those at Hastings revealing a diverse, subtropical floodplain fauna.

The footcast comes with an acrylic display stand and a small card featuring the specimen name, region it was found and age.
