Theropod Tooth (Neoceratosaur)

A rare Neoceratosaur theropod dinosaur tooth from the Isalo IIIb Formation of Madagascar. There is very little published on these teeth, but a 2005 paper tentatively refers teeth of this morphology to the clade neoceratosauria. This tooth features nice serrations on both edges and no repairs.

The geological formation where this tooth was found, the Isalo IIIb Formation in southwestern Madagascar, is a Middle to Late Jurassic (168 million years ago) sedimentary unit celebrated for its terrestrial fossil record. Composed of cross-bedded sandstones, siltstones, and mudstones, it represents a fluvial landscape of braided rivers, floodplains, and seasonal aridity. This formation yields significant dinosaur fossils, including the various sauropods, early theropods, and ornithischians, alongside crocodyliforms, turtles, and fish. These remains offer vital insights into Jurassic Gondwanan ecosystems.
