A very rare Stegosaurus neck plate from the Morrison Formation of Colorado. It was found in assosiation with other neck/gular scutes, as well as skull bones and teeth. I've aquired a small group of these from an American collector and all have been personally identified by Stegosaurus expert Dr. Ken Carpenter. Stegosaurus fossils are very hard to come by and neck scutes are particularly rare. Embedded within the skin, they would have been some of the first bones to wash away as the skin decomposed, so the head of this Stegosaurus must have been buried in sediment quite rapidly for all the neck scutes, skull bones and teeth to be found in assosiation with one another! This little scute comes labelled and stored in an acrylic case with padding.
Age: 150 Million Years
Locality: Moffat County, Colorado (Morrison Formation)
