Dapedium Fossil Fish (Germany)

A rare Dapedium fish from the Posidonia Shale.  Dapedium was a fascinating Jurassic age fish featuring an armoured skull with bony dermal plates and a moveable upper jaw which could protrude from the mouth to catch larger prey. 

This piece features lots of nice detail, including well preserved scales, skull plates and teeth.  The shale on which it rests features a repair.
