edmontosaurus
"Lizard from Edmonton"
Edmontosaurus, a genus of hadrosaurid dinosaurs, roamed North America during the Late Cretaceous period. As one of the largest herbivores of its time, it could reach lengths of up to 12 meters. Its distinctive features included a long, flat head with a duck-like bill, a robust body, and powerful hind limbs that allowed it to walk both bipedally and quadrupedally. Its diet consisted of a variety of plants, which it processed using specialized dental batteries.
Fossil evidence suggests that Edmontosaurus lived in herds, potentially for protection against predators. Numerous well-preserved specimens, including mummified remains, have provided valuable insights into its anatomy, behavior, and ecology. These fossils have revealed details such as skin texture, muscle attachments, and even internal organs. By studying Edmontosaurus, paleontologists gain a deeper understanding of the Late Cretaceous ecosystem and the evolutionary history of dinosaurs.
