A super rare hydrothermal vent (black smoker) sample from the East Pacfic Rise area. It comes from 2613m down, 14 degrees 0.4 N,104 degrees 22.1 W.
I was lucky enough to aquire a small number of these several years ago, and know of only one other example of hydrothermal vent samples being offered for sale online. It's often said that we know more about the surface of the moon than this part of Earth, due to the extreme pressures at these depths. It's hypothisised that life may have began on Earth around these deep sea vents.
This sample comes labelled and stored in an acrylic case, as pictured.
